Artist Jean Jullien, through his signature simple lines and colors, creates witty depictions of daily life and social issues.
Jullien engages in creative activity under the conviction that art must be simple enough in format to be understandable
by all viewers. Refusing to be limited to two-dimensional illustrations or a particular subject matter, he works in genres
including painting, video, sculpture, art objects, and fashion. Jullien held his first retrospective in Korea in “Jean
Jullien: Then, There”, which is featured this year at the Wooyang Museum of Contemporary Art under the title “Jean
Jullien: Still, There” with more artworks and a different theme.
“Jean Jullien: Still, There” was developed from the sketchbooks Jullien filled with his creative ideas. Visitors
will get the chance to observe how Jullien channeled his inspirations into concrete works of art as well as how he
incorporates techniques from other mediums. The exhibition is made even more special with an exclusive section for
Nicolas Jullien, the artist’s brother and artistic partner, through which visitors can see the process by which the
Jullien brothers bring forth the powerful synergy of their artistic visions. The exhibition will also feature Korean
landscape paintings recently created by Jean Jullien.
The exhibition has been arranged so that visitors can easily grasp the techniques that form the foundation of Jean
Jullien’s artistic world and how they are employed. It is hoped that visitors, by learning about Jullien’s attitude on life
and how it is reflected in his artwork in ways that resonate, have an opportunity to think about how they perceive
themselves.
